Nature Will Surprise You

Hello, Friend!

Sometimes you plant things, and you know what you're planting, but Nature still surprises you.

Like the flowers now towering over our heads on wispy stems, swaying in the breeze.

Or the sorghum cover crop that has shot up into what looks kind of like stalks of corn.

And the basil that just keeps coming, with some incredibly large leaves!

We do a lot of planning at the beginning of the season, making sure we're rotating crops, planting good companions, optimizing shady and sunny areas, timing the turnover of beds, etc., etc. And yes, of course we choose certain seeds and generally have an idea of what to expect as they grow.

How wonderful that we get to be unexpectedly surprised / awed / delighted by what Nature does with our plans!

As it is in the garden, so it is outside the garden -- How is this playing out in your life? What plans of yours have come to life and brought surprises along the way?

Recipes This Week

We've got a lot of vegetables to keep up with these days -- here are a couple of recent favorite recipes:

Green Beans and Okra with Dill -- one of the best from last year, back again!

Vegetable Soup -- when you're drowning in veggies, this is a great template for using a bunch of what's on hand (and freezing for later!)
