A Market You Don't Want to Miss
Published 5 days ago • 1 min read
Hello, Friend!
We have officially reached major harvesting time on the farm!
Zucchini, and green beans, and beets, oh my! And potatoes. And cucumbers. Leeks. Cabbage. Carrots. And wow, so much basil -- a lot of pesto happening these days!
Quite the jackpot with our Golden Nugget potatoes!
Beautiful beets!
The tomatoes and peppers seem to be taking their time. A neighbor at this weekend's farmer's market suggested that the recent heatwave here might be slowing those guys down -- apparently consistent heat over 85-90 degrees can stress the plants, reducing fruit production. Who knew? Learning such things is just one of the perks of participating in our local market.
If you haven't had the opportunity to visit the Walnut Community Farmer's Market, it's worth the trip. Our first season was last year, and it's really starting to grow, in terms of vendors, those who come out, and the variety of things for sale. We often pick up eggs, honey, goat milk soap and cheese, and other vegetables we're not growing ourselves. Sometimes there are amazing baked goods, or locally made yogurt, or fresh ginger beer. The sea salt goat milk caramels and dark-roasted peanut butter are addictive, as are our very own roasted rosemary cashews that sell out every time. ;) Plus, there are massages and great local musicians playing toe-tapping tunes.
This has turned out to be quite the ad for our local market -- we're just really proud of it and glad to contribute. There are a lot of wonderful farmer's markets in the area, but this one feels special. Probably because we're biased, but come on out and see for yourself!
Next Community Day July 26th, 10am-1pm
We have 3 spots left and lots of food to share! Come out to get your hands dirty and enjoy a morning with friends on the farm.
